The Shire of Boddington values its volunteers and aims to create an environment which promotes and sustains effective volunteering and builds community capacity. Our local volunteers shape Boddington as a stronger, healthier and happier community to live, work and visit. Volunteer time, energy and expertise delivers over $570,000 worth of service to the community each year which would otherwise not be possible.

The Shire of Boddington acknowledges and celebrates the contribution of volunteers (otherwise known as our Community Champions) throughout the year. There are a number of ways in which the Shire celebrate our Community Champions these include events such as the Australia Day Awards, Thank a Volunteer Day or National Volunteer Week Events and our Volunteer Recognition Program.
Australia Day Awards
Auspire – The Australia Day Council WA, Community Citizen of the Year Awards are presented by Local Government within local communities across Western Australia on Australia Day. The Community Citizen of the Year Awards give local governments around the state the opportunity to acknowledge the contribution and celebrate community engagement of people within the community.
The Awards recognise individuals and organisations making a notable contribution during the current year, and/or to those who have given outstanding service over a number of years.
Examples of outstanding contribution and community service includes areas such as; education, health, fund-raising, charitable and voluntary services, business, employment, sport, arts, the environment, social inclusion or any other area that contributes to the advancement and wellbeing of a community.
Key dates for Australia Day Award nominations.
- 1 September: Nominations Open
- 31 October: Nominations Close
- November – December: Shortlisting and Selections (by local council selection panels)
- 26 January: Presentation of awards at local events

Visit the Community Citizen of the Year Awards website and submit your nomination.
Nominees will then be shortlisted and judged against the selection criteria and awarded at the Australia Day Awards ceremony.

Thank a Volunteer Day and National Volunteer Week
The Shire of Boddington is proud to recognise local volunteer also known as our Community Champions. Events such as Thank a Volunteer Day and National Volunteer Week are great opportunities for the Shire to give back to our Community Champions.
Thank a Volunteer Day in Boddington: Breakfast of Champions is hosted to formally recognise the service and impact of volunteers representing community groups, sporting clubs and emergency services based within the Shire. Invitations are distributed to local organisations, along with a brief impact measurement survey to quantify the value of volunteering in Boddington. Attendees enjoy a complimentary breakfast, Shire President address, presentation of certificates and live music on the beautiful Hotham River Foreshore.
National Volunteer Week is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteers. This year’s theme for NVW recognises, celebrates and thanks volunteers for being change makers within their communities. The Shire of Boddington celebrate National Volunteer Week in Boddington with a Community Champion Sundowner, this is a closed-invite event for volunteers aligned with a community group, sporting club or emergency services based within the Shire of Boddington. Invitations are distributed to local organisations and attendees enjoy a Sundowner format featuring a buffet dinner, Shire President address, presentation of certificates and entertainment for the evening.

Community Champions Campaign
